This last answer is absolute utter nonsense. These self-appointed 'experts' make me so mad! Read on...

I suffered from a genital rash, sore and raw back passage, acne, dandruff, sluggish digestion, bloatedness, uncomfortable belching, poor sleep, nightmares and vivid/ disturbing dreams, depression and panic attacks for 5 years +.

The fifth doctor I went to see said *exactly* the same as the this last answerer, i.e. 'oh no that's very unlikley, Candida is only in HIV/ diabetes patients.' Once I dropped my trousers he soon changed his tune! Within two weeks of the starch and sugar-free diet and anti-fungals from the doc and herbal anti-fungal (Caprylic acid) the rash cleared up and the belching stopped. I am still amazed to go the toilet and find I am fine when I had this problem for 5 years + (not an STD as I was sexually inactive at the time).

Now here's where my story gets really interesting... I used to brew my own beer at home, and sometimes when I opened up the barrel after I had drunk all the beer there was a white scum on the top. Guess what they call that? 'Mycoderma Candida' - see reference below...

Questioner, if you have thrush, acne, depression, itchy skin you remind me of myself one month ago and for the last five years or more. How are your guts? Back passage? Had any bad dreams of late? Sleeping OK?

I would bet money you have Candida. Do the diet and take Grapefruit seed extract and/or Caprylic. Do not listen to the doctors, they are about as much use a chocolate teapot when it comes to Bacterial Dysbiosis. I had seen *five* before the Candida was finally diagnosed! Oh and a herbalist too! They are all way behind on this one... It's the modern diet, too high in refined stuff, IMHO.

Finally I would like to say for the record I am living proof of the threat of this condition. Every night when I go to bed and don't burp that is like a miracle for me! Hallelujah!
References :
The penguin Book of Home-Brewing and Wine Making - WHT Tayleur, 1973, 1979.

It is, as you suspected, a hoax.
Candida "overgrowth" is nonexistent except in patients with severe immunodeficiency. It is not seen in people who are walking around, only in the hospitals (these people are seriously ill.) This saliva "test" would probably say the same thing for everyone. I doubt it would be any different after the treatment.
References :
Go to the doctor and if it is true get some Rx meds that the doctor can give you and if you have insurance it will more than likely cover. Never take anything you are unsure of.
References :
*Eat vegetables, fish, and gluten-free grains such as brown rice and millet.
*Eat plain yogurt that contains live yogurt cultures. For vaginal candidiasis, apply natural unprocessed and unsweetened yogurt directly into the vagina or mix one small container of plain yogurt with an equal amount of water and use it as a douce once or twice daily until you see an improvement. You can also open two capsules of acidophilus and add the contents to a douce. This helps to inhibit the growth of the fungus.
*Take supplemental acidophilus or bifidus to help to restore the normal balance of flora in the bowel and vagina.
*Take some type of fiber daily. Oat bran or flax seed is a good source.
*Drink distilled water only.
*Make sure your diet is fruit free, sugar free, and yeast free. Candida thrives in a sugary environment, so your diet should be low in carbohydrates and contain no yeast products or sugar in any form.
*Avoid aged cheeses, alcohol, baked goods, chocolate, dried fruits, fermented foods, all grains containing gluten (wheat, oats, rye, and barley), ham, honey, nut butters, pickles, potatoes, raw mushrooms, soy sauce, sprouts, and vinegar.
*Eliminate citrus and acidic fruits such as oranges, grapefruit, lemons, tomatoes, pineapple, and limes from your diet for one month; then add back only a few times weekly. Although they seem acidic, these fruits are actually alkaline-forming in the body and candida thrives on them.
*Where white cotton underwear. Synthetic fibers lead to increased perspiration, which creates a hospitable environment for candida, and also traps bacteria, which can cause a secondary infection.
***If these recommendations don't help, consult a physician. This may be a sign of an underlying illness such as diabetes or immune system dysfunction, which makes for an environment more conducive to the growth of yeast.
References :
Unfortunately, this problem does not go away just by taking medication/supplements.Diet plays a big role in treatment.
The best diet is stay away from anything that feeds yeast e.g. sugars, carbs, etc. when your system gets free of yeast you can go back to your regular diet.
References :
Along w/ the one yougurt a day you can try Azo Yeast and Acidophilus as a supplement. I wouldn't recommend taking daily, but when you notice an increased amount of candida, you can take the Azo Yeast and Acidophilus together w/ the yogurt to fight the oncoming infection.
References :
20 yrs as a diabetic.
